Misook Yu, CFP®, was born and raised in South Korea and came to America for school in her mid-20s.  She initially studied programming at St. Louis Community College where she met her future husband, Terry.  Then, after realizing how understanding and utilizing the “financial system” can positively affect one’s financial well-being, she went back to school to study finance at University of Missouri at St. Louis, and became a financial planner.  While building her career in financial planning she taught Korean language on weekends for several years through the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education program.  Having been raised in a family with modest resources and as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, she is passionate in helping those who were not born with a silver spoon.  This is why she became an independent financial planner, wrote the book Achieving Financial Stability in America (available in both Korean & English languages) and writes columns on that topic.  Misook and her husband, a software developer, have coached a robotics team (FLL) that advanced to international championships and helped under-privileged local schools start their own robotics team through summer robotics camps.  They have two sons: one in college and one in high school.
