What We Do

The Gateway Korea Foundation has several events that occur annually. Get an overview below and click on the event’s image or title for more specifics about this year’s celebrations.

DanO - May/June

The annual celebration of spring’s arrival, DanO was also traditionally a time when Korean women were granted more freedom. In the progressive spirit of the holiday, GKF invites Korean-American female scholars and artists, as well as panelists from other cultures, to speak about Korean art, history, and culture. Held at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Click on the image to learn more about this year’s celebration.

Chuseok - September

Sometimes called Korean Thanksgiving, Chuseok is a time of showing gratitude - to our ancestors and for newly harvested crops. Families gather together and prepare ritual offerings of fresh food and drink for their ancestors, then celebrate with each other. GKF shares traditional and modern Korean art, music, food, and more, including the popular K-Pop Festival and hanbok clothing experience. In partnership with the St. Louis Art Museum, this event provides families a chance to hear Korean stories, learn the Korean alphabet, make traditional crafts, go on free tours of SLAM’s Korean art collection, and more. Click on the image to learn more about this year’s celebration.

Webinar + Film Series

GKF’s webinars and film series educate and enlighten audiences about South Korea while inspiring cross-cultural appreciation and cooperation. The webinar series features experts in the fields of Korean culture, society, history, and art from around the world.
