Minsoo Kang, The Melancholy of Untold History

Meet the Author: Book Reading & Signing

November 14 | Ray’s Sportshouse | Doors open @ 6:30 PM

The Gateway Korea Foundation and Left Bank Books host Minsoo Kang for a reading, Q&A, and signing of his debut novel The Melancholy of Untold History.

An epic story spanning three thousand years in the history of a country called the Grand Circle.  It narrates the founding myth of the civilization involving four mountain gods who begin as friends but become bitter enemies, with terrible consequences for the humans who build the first civilization in the land.  The novel then recounts important moments in the country’s history, of an emperor who decides to fabricate an entire period of the past in order to glorify his ancestors, and of a dynasty that comes to a catastrophic end due to intrigue in the imperial court.  All of these stories are told by an ancient storyteller awaiting execution for reasons that he does not understand, and a modern-day historian who is trying to come to terms with the tragedies in his life through his study of the remote past.

Appetizers, refreshments, and a cash bar will be offered. This event is free and open to the public. The book can be preordered through Left Bank Books and will also be available for purchase at the event. https://www.left-bank.com/book/9780063337503
