Lois Ingrum

Engineer, teacher and long time photographer Lois Ingrum is president and lead photographer at the Artists Media Co-op. Lois has been doing corporate and event photography in Saint Louis longer than she is willing to admit, and trains a corps of high school students in the skills necessary to be video producers. Lois has taught in the Saint Louis public schools and produced photographs for virtually every major Saint Louis corporation.

 Michael S. Figenshau

Mike earned his law degree, Order of the Coif, from the University of Missouri School of Law. He served on the editorial board of the Missouri Law Review, conducted extensive research for Professor Erika Lietzan, and was awarded the Judge Lawrence G. Crahan Memorial Judicial Fellowship. Prior to law school, Mike was a National Merit Scholar at Washington University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He has published articles on topics including the admissibility of expert testimony and implied waiver of the physician-patient privilege.

 Jina McAtee

Jina McAtee is a pediatrician practicing in St. Louis.  She grew up in San Jose, California, obtained her bachelor’s degree from UCLA, and attended St. Louis University School of Medicine and Pediatric residency at SLU.  She is currently working at a Federally Qualified Health Center in St. Louis City to care for underrepresented and uninsured children and to advocate health through education.  She will be chairing the Dano Festival with the help of other GKF members.  Her interests are in education, health, art, and culture. 

 Bum Yong Kim is currently an instructional designer for the Federal Reserve Bank.  Previously, Bum worked in vocational ministry focused on leadership development of young adults who have a passion for racial reconciliation and economic justice.  He and his wife of 25 years raised three children, the youngest of whom was adopted from Korea.  They reside in Meacham Park, an African-American neighborhood in Kirkwood.  


 Torin Hovander

Torin Hovander is a first generation Korean-American. Torin focused on North Korean domestic policy while attending the University of New Mexico and Dongguk University.

Pastor Paul Choi converted to Christianity while he studied Fine Art in Hong Ik Univ. South Korea. While studying esthetics in Hong Ik Graduate school, he was sent to US as an anointed missionary. He worked as an assistant pastor in Chicago UBF Church for 10 years until his family moved to St. Louis for church planting in 2004. Now he teaches the Bible to college students, especially in Wash U.  

Emmy Crawford, MA

Emmy Crawford is an educator turned real estate advisor who has a passion for learning about different cultures and giving back to the community. Emmy grew up in Vietnam and has traveled, studied, and lived in different countries in Asia, Australia and America. Before joining Coldwell Banker Gundaker, Emmy had spent 16 years in education instructing students in ESL and hospitality classes at Kien Giang Community College, Ormond College, Missouri S&T, St. Louis Community College and Washington University of St. Louis. Emmy was a recipient of the Australian Award and earned an MA in education. Her love for Korean culture and music rooted in the early days when she had several opportunities to assist a couple of Korean companies during her six years serving as a professor at Kien Giang Community College in Vietnam and her two years serving as the President of the International Student Club at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She has hosted a number of charity events and community events in Asia, Australia and America over the last 18 years. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her two kids, cooking for families and friends, traveling, hiking, and photography. 

Youngmi Moon, BS

Youngmi Moon moved to Missouri in 2017 from South Korea. She worked for Jeju City Government for about 20 years. She likes to read books in her free time and hopes to study Accounting in the near future. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Jeju National University, and Global Leadership Program Certificate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Hyunsun (Sun) Kim, B.Ed

Hyunsun (Sun) Kim is currently participating in the ‘Global Leadership Program’ course at the University of Missouri. Previously, she was a chairman of public relations that played a role in establishing the Korean School that is accredited by the Korean government in China. She also opened her own consulting company in the past that connected Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese and American kids for cultural exposure in both summer and winter programs. These experiences helped her realize that education can widen people’s view and make them embrace their variance. She wishes to play a role in achieving the dream to make a world where everyone is accepting by giving them the opportunity to discover and appreciate the different cultures and their lives.  Sun holds a bachelor’s degree of Education of Social Study from Seowon University (Cheongju University College of Education), Certificate for the education of environmentology from Ewha Woman’s University, and Certificate for middle and high school teacher from Ministry of Education in Korea.

Kelly Famuliner, MSW, LCSW

Kelly Famuliner serves as the Consultant for Ragtag Film Society’s Community Partnership & Education Team where she provides guidance and support on implementation of Ragtag Film Society’s organization-wide Community Engagement Plan; develops and leads media literacy trainings for new Community Partnerships & Education staff; and advises on best practices for community engagement and audience development for community-based initiatives at Ragtag Cinema and the True/False Film Fest. She holds a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri.

Vice-Chairperson Hyonsook Kang 

Hyonsook Kang has a BS in Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois.  She retired from a career as a Project/Engineering Manager in the Petrochemical Industry.   She lived in New Jersey, Baton Rouge, Houston and London  as the projects with increased scope to finally managing international, complex mega projects.  She has a passion for helping others reach their potential through mentoring.


Seungkwon You completed his master’s degree and Ph.D. in political science at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is the director of the Global Leadership Program at the Asian Affairs Center, which hosts more than 70 Asian professionals, including Koreans, Chinese, Thais, and Vietnamese. Additionally, he is an associate teaching professor for the Korean Studies Program and the director of the Institute for Korean Studies at MU, and has been teaching courses on Korean society through cinema and U.S.-Korean relations for the past 20 years.

Han Ko, President & CEO, USAKO Group, has more than three decades of experience in venture capital in technology and commercial real estate investment.  With graduate degrees in technology, he has successfully launched and operated multiple ventures in the U.S. and South Korea.  He is currently serving as a board member/investor/advisor and mentor for multiple venture capital companies and startups in the U.S.A. and Asia.  He is a founding board member of Gateway Korea Foundation and serves as a member of multiple other not-for-profit organization boards including Asian American Chamber of Commerce, OCA, and the Korean American Association for community and economic development.  He has played productive roles for the Leadership Council, SIUE, Washington University, Southwest Illinois Trade Organization, World Trade Center, Cambridge Innovation Center, and Arch Grants, through frequent lecturing, speaking and other projects. 

Kiyong Kim received the D.Sc. degree from the Systems Science and Mathematics Department at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, in 1995. He worked for the Agency for Defense Development, Korea, from 1979 to 1988, as a Research Engineer. He is currently a Consulting R&D Engineer at Basler Electric Company. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He is a member of the IEEE/PES Excitation System and Controls Subcommittee, IEEE Industry Applications, and IEEE Computational Intelligence Societies.

Young-Hie Kromm, AIA, as Principal of KRJ Planning & Research, leads in planning and designing artful space that is meaningful in context to its community’s cultural background.  Young-Hie received Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. She is involved in the American Institute of Architects and its St. Louis Chapter. She shares her expertise on many local boards such as the Architectural Review Board in Wildwood and is the founding chair of Gateway Korea Foundation.  She served as a panelist for the Cross-Cultural Communication for the Women in Architecture Symposium at Washington University in St. Louis. She also had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dr. Blanche Touhill as part of the State Historical Society of Missouri’s “Women as Change Agents.”

Myong J. Cho (심명자), PhD, is a retired DuPont Technical Fellow after 44 years of professional employment at Ralston Purina Co. St. Louis, MO and DuPont, Wilmington, DE.  Myong had been a food protein and process scientist by training and education.  Myong holds a number of US and worldwide patents on soy protein, and its process and application.   Myong is very active in Korean Hope Presbyterian Church serving as a woman elder (권사), volunteering Treasurer and a cell group leader primarily ministering Korean graduate students of Washington University.  Myong currently enjoys taking courses at Covenant Theological Seminary and Community College.

Sung Ho Kim RIBA Parts I and II, is a professor of architecture at Washington University, has taught at Rhode Island School of Design and was assistant professor of architecture at Northeastern University. He was a visiting professor at Konkuk University in Seoul, Korea, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. Sung Ho has published, lectured, and exhibited internationally, and currently is design director of Axi:Ome LLC of St. Louis, United States, and Jecheon, South Korea, working on various national and international commissioned projects. Sung Ho received the 2018 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. He received his BFA and BArch from Rhode Island School of Design, AA Diploma from Architectural Association of London and SMArchS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  

Richard Stevenson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis.  He served two years as a Peace Corps volunteer under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Korea, implementing a World Health Organization model tuberculosis control program in Buan, North Jeolla Province, and a third year with the Seoul National University demonstration public health center near Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.  He remained a fourth year on the staff of two training programs for new, incoming Peace Corps-Korea volunteers.  Upon return to the United States, he retired following 42 years serving in a variety of programmatic and organizational management positions with the American Lung Association of Eastern Missouri and the St. Louis affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Kathy A. Hawkinson

As the mother of two Korean born sons by adoption, Kathy has always looked for opportunities to learn about and celebrate her sons’ birth culture.   She enjoys cooking and often tries Korean dishes getting her family involved in the process.  An active volunteer, Kathy has served in volunteer roles for Dillon International, and other adoption support organizations as well as at her sons’ schools and her church.   Prior to raising her sons, Kathy worked 15 years in a variety of accounting and finance positions for several major corporations.  Kathy holds a BSBA Accountancy degree from the University of Central Missouri.  


Renée Brummell Franklin, Director of Audience Development at the Saint Louis Art Museum, has led the Museum’s efforts to initiate and cultivate sustainable relationships with diverse audiences to encourage participation in the arts for nearly 20 years.  Renée volunteers on several boards and committees including the African Heritage Association, St. Louis Mosaic Project, Regional Arts Commission, and World Trade Center St. Louis.  She is co-president of Missouri-Senegal Sister Cities and serves as the Missouri State Representative for Sister Cities International.  She is a founding member and currently serves as President of the National Alliance of African American Art Support Groups.  Renee has received numerous awards and commendations including the 2010 Grand Center Visionary Award for Outstanding Arts Professional and was the recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates African Urban Poverty Alleviation Program grant. Renee enjoys travel and is passionate about learning and sharing international cultures.  Prior to joining the non-profit sector, Renee worked for several fortune 100 companies.  She holds a Master’s degree in education and an MBA, both from Webster University, and an undergraduate degree in marketing and business administration from Towson University in Baltimore, MD.

Mark Carlie, CPA, CGMA, CMA, CM&AA; Principal, Carlie Consulting, LLC; Partner, BDO USA, LLP – Retired, Formerly Stone Carlie & Company, LLC. Mark is an active real estate developer and owner. He is currently a co-leader of AltonWorks, a social impact redeveloper which is catalyzing the redevelopment of downtown Alton, Illinois to make it the healthiest, happiest city on the Mississippi River. At BDO, Mark oversaw the construction and real estate practice in the areas of business development, staff development, product development and service delivery. Through Carlie Consulting, Mark provides strategic and management consulting services to organizations’ leadership and management teams. At BDO, Mark lead the development and delivery of a portfolio of consulting services aimed at improving the direction, performance and accountability of clients’ businesses. For over 40 years, he has helped clients determine their visions and the strategies and programs needed to capitalize on their strengths, align their efforts and inspire their people. Clients have been from a broad array of industries including construction, real estate, healthcare, not-for-profit, professional services, manufacturing, distribution, retail and more. Using extensive experience, tools and methodologies, Mark oversees the conduct of engagements in the areas of business planning, including vision and strategy development, operational performance improvement, performance measurement and reporting, financial management, technology enablement and project management. Mark has served as a committee member for numerous construction and real estate associations and numerous civic and charitable organizations.

Janet Park is an artist trained in Classical Ballet, Contemporary/Modern dance, and Korean traditional dance.  Despite that compelling interest in the arts, she intentionally refused to major in dance and instead studied Business and Architecture.  She has toured internationally with a professional dance company, taught at a Ballet Conservatory, and conducted residency programs highlighting Movement and Literature throughout the Greater St. Louis area including Normandy School District.  She has often worked as a conduit to connect artists with art organizations and vice versa, assisting COCA and Dance St. Louis.  She has served on the board of the Edison Theatre at Washington University and is currently on the Cinema St. Louis Board of Directors.  She oversaw and participated in the Seoul International Dance Festival (SIDANCE) and the Digital Dance Festival in Korea as an international director.  During the past 20 years she has moved away from performance at traditional dance venues to perform at such venues as art museums, architecturally significant buildings, world heritage sites, etc.  Her collaborative performances with painters, sculptors or composers at museum spaces, galleries or specific-sites premiered in Italy, France, England, and Finland.  She also works with literature, sound, landscapes, digital art, and fashion in an unusual setting.   As she rediscovers her roots in traditional Korean heritage and stays closely connected to current Korean culture and art scenes, she continues to dedicate her time and effort to connect with art and culture.

Misook Yu, CFP®, was born and raised in South Korea and came to America for school in her mid-20s.  She initially studied programming at St. Louis Community College where she met her future husband, Terry.  Then, after realizing how understanding and utilizing the “financial system” can positively affect one’s financial well-being, she went back to school to study finance at University of Missouri at St. Louis, and became a financial planner.  While building her career in financial planning she taught Korean language on weekends for several years through the St. Louis Community College Continuing Education program.  Having been raised in a family with modest resources and as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, she is passionate in helping those who were not born with a silver spoon.  This is why she became an independent financial planner, wrote the book Achieving Financial Stability in America (available in both Korean & English languages) and writes columns on that topic.  Misook and her husband, a software developer, have coached a robotics team (FLL) that advanced to international championships and helped under-privileged local schools start their own robotics team through summer robotics camps.  They have two sons: one in college and one in high school.

Jason Kim is an independent marketing consultant with global business experience in brand strategy, new product development, and marketing planning. He previously served as a member of the Gateway Korea Foundation Advisory Board since 2014, serving on the GKF Public Relations Committee.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Indiana University.

Kathianne Knaup Crane of Clayton, Missouri, was educated at Washington University, majoring in political science, and St Louis University School of Law. In 1967-1968, between college and law school, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of South Korea, where she was assigned to teach English at Daegu Girls Middle School in the city of Daegu. in 2013, after 23 years on the bench, she retired as a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals, where she was the first woman to serve as chief judge of a Missouri appellate court. While on the court she also chaired several statewide Missouri Supreme Court committees. Her prior legal career included ten years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and eight years in private practice. She brings 37 years of non-profit board experience, currently serving on the board of The State Historical Society of Missouri and having previously served on the boards of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (Treasurer and Vice President), Nerinx Hall High School (Board Chair), The Scholarship Foundation of St Louis (Secretary and Vice President), and The Family Support Network.


Elizabeth S. Lenivy is an attorney with the Simon Law Firm, P.C., in St. Louis and focuses her practice on medical malpractice, product defect, and mass tort litigation.  Born in South Korea, Liz moved to the St. Louis Metropolitan area at the age of three.  She graduated from St. Louis University with a B.A. in English and a certification in Legal Studies.  She is also a 2015 graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, where she attended as an 1843 Scholar.  She is a board member of the Young Friends of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and a member of several professional organizations including the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Missouri Asian American Bar Association, and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.  During her senior year at SLU, she was elected President of the Korean Student Association and focused her tenure on raising funds and awareness for North Korean refugees. .
